Dortmund and Gladbach: This is how the preparation works

BVB said goodbye to the summer break with a hearty 4-0 defeat against Hoffenheim, during which Lucien Favre asked for training just five weeks later. As usual, BVB moved to their training camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, where they won clear friendly matches against the Austrian first division team Rheindorf Altach (6-0) and Austria Wien (11-2), coached by former BVB coach Peter Stöger before there was a 5-1 win against Duisburg at the “Cup of Traditions” and a 1-3 defeat against Feyenoord Rotterdam. The first-round cup match at MSV Duisburg (14.09.2020) is then considered the dress rehearsal for the Bundesliga opener against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The Gladbach Borussia only had successes in the test matches in their summer preparation: 4-0 against third division Verl, 4-0 against Duisburg, 2-0 against Paderborn. In the DFB Cup, coach Marco Rose’s team will travel to Bremen for FC Oberneuland (Regionalliga Nord), before the Borussia duel between Dortmund and Gladbach will kick off the season on September 19.

Dortmund against Gladbach: Weakness for the foals against BVB

It’s hard to believe, but Borussia Mönchengladbach hasn’t been able to score a single point against Borussia Dortmund for over five years. The foals lost the last ten duels in the Bundesliga against BVB, plus the Gladbacher Pokal-Aus in Dortmund in October 2019.
BVB has not had such a long winning streak against any other club. Overall, the results are as follows: Borussia Dortmund won 44 times in 105 clashes, Borussia M’Gladbach 31 times – the Borussia duel ended in a draw 30 times.

Bellingham? Meunier? Moukoko? Knauff is the name of the most interesting “newcomer”

Jude Bellingham came from Birmingham City for 26.5 million euros, Emre Can was signed by Juve for a rumored 25 million euros, Thomas Meunier signed a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germaint. There are also the talents Reinier (loaned from Real Madrid) and Youssoufa Moukoko (BVB U19). In the test matches, however, one youngster in particular drew attention to himself: Ansgar Knauff. The 18-year-old, who was born in Göttingen, is allowed to do the preparation with the professionals and convinced the coaching team around Lucien Favre, scored twice in the 5-1 against Duisburg.

Gladbach with an almost identical squad from the previous season

First of all, the bad news: Gladbach Borussia have not allowed themselves any great leaps on the transfer market. In addition to US defensive talent Joe Scally (1.7 million euros to New York City), Hannes Wolf (RB Leipzig) and Valentino Lazaro (Inter Milan) were loaned out. The good news: Rose can fall back on the entire regular team from last season. Raffael, Fabian Johnson and Tobias Strobl left the foals, but the well-rehearsed team around captain Lars Stindl stays together. Only the ankle injury of Marcus Thuram causes Borussia a bit of concern.
