kimmich-vs-wernerCristiano Ronaldo, Paolo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuaín, Miralem Pjanic on one side, Romelu Lukaku, Christian Eriksen, Alexis Sánchez and Lautaro Martinez on the other. It has been a while since the Juventus duel against Inter Milan had such a large line-up of world-class players to offer. Even better: the battle for the Scudetto, the title in the Italian series, is incredibly exciting. On Sunday, March 1st, Juve and Inter will meet in the so-called “Derby d’Italia”. Our preview of the top game in Italy.

Juve – Inter compared: The Bianconeri clearly dominate

There was the duel Juventus – Internazionale 175 times, the Italian professional football experienced no duel more often. The tournaments are clearly ahead: the Old Lady won 84 times, Inter won 47, and the Derby d’Italia draw ended. Incidentally, this duel was nicknamed for very simple reasons. Juve and Inter are the two most successful clubs in the country and were the only clubs that played permanently in Serie A until the Turin relegation in 2006.

In recent years, Juventus has rarely burned anything, the subscription champion of Italy lost only one of the last 14 duels against Inter Milan – in September 2016 the Nerazzurri won 2-1 against Juve. In the first leg of the current season Juventus narrowly won 2-1 in San Siro – Higuaín got the winning goal ten minutes before the final whistle. It was the first defeat of the season for the Milanese team, who also had to relinquish the lead to their Piedmont rivals.

The current form curve

Three points and two places separate the two teams. With the defeat of Inters near Lazio in mid-February, the capitals were able to move between Juventus and Inter Milan. Lazio made a guest appearance with the old lady at the end of April, and Inter could possibly be the laughing third in the fight for the Scudetto. But there’s still a long way to go.

Juve started this decade with three victories before losing to SSC Napoli and, a little later, surprisingly missing all points at Hellas Verona. For Inter the January was rather mixed, against Atalanta, Lecce and Cagliari they couldn’t get past 1-1. The Milan derby could still be won after deficit, but it set in Rome the aforementioned loss to Lazio. In addition, the team of coach Antonio Conte is only in the Europa League after the “relegation” from the Champions League (there it goes against Ludogorets Razgrad) – in contrast to Juve, Inter now has to run more often on Thursday and has less regeneration time before the championship duels at the weekend.

Injury update: Juve without Demiral and Khedira

Juve coach Maurizio Sarri also has to do without the long-term injured Sami Khedira and Merih Demiral in the Derby d’Italia. While the loss of the German world champion in midfield should be replaced by the young Uruguayan Rodrigo Bentancur, Daniele Rugani or old star Giorgio Chiellini have recently moved into the defense for the Turkish international injured on the cruciate ligament. For Douglas Costa, who injured himself in the defeat in Verona, an engagement against Inter should come too soon. Especially in the offensive area, Juve is double or triple strong.
